What is Telephone Mutation?

Write a prompt, pass it to someone to draw, then pass the drawing to someone to guess. The reveal compares the original prompt, its drawing, and the final guess.

How to play

  1. Host a room and invite at least two friends.
  2. Write a short prompt for another player to draw.
  3. Draw the prompt you receive, keeping the original idea to yourself.
  4. Guess the drawing passed to you. The reveal shows the original prompt, drawing and final guess together.

Who is it for?

Groups who want a funny reveal rather than a drawing lesson. Short, concrete prompts make this especially approachable for people new to drawing games.

Try this in your first game

“A cat flying a kite” might be drawn as a cat holding a triangle and guessed as “a cat ordering pizza”. The comparison is the payoff.

  • Use an object and an action, such as “a penguin making pizza”, instead of a long paragraph.
  • Do not explain your drawing aloud before the guess is submitted. Misunderstandings are part of the game.
  • At the reveal, compare one chain at a time so everyone gets to see their contribution.

Before you invite your friends

How does my friend join?

One person creates the lobby and shares its room code or full invite link. Everyone else joins that same room. Creating a second room will put you in separate games.

Can we play on phones?

Yes. Use a browser on each device and keep the game tab open during the round. A larger screen gives drawings more room. For a call, use your usual voice or video app separately.

Do we need accounts?

No account or download is required to play these games with friends.
